Driftwood sculpture donated to LCAC from local artist, Bob Knudson of Potomac River Art.
Jeweled Colorful Barnacle Timber, a rare barnacle-laden timber found in the river likely from one of the ghost ships of Mallows Bay. It was harvested on the banks of the Potomac River within sight of the "Ghost Fleet" of Mallows Bay (nearly 200 wooden ships that make up the largest collection of shipwrecks in the Western Hemisphere). The timber is completely sealed in multiple hand-applied layers of ultra-gloss epoxy. This process ensures it will not rot, decay, or release any contaminates & can be enjoyed for many years to come. These details are what separates our driftwood from others.
Bob Knudson's Enhanced Driftwood process, takes at least 4 weeks to several months to complete. It includes cleaning, decontamination, & inlaying a blend of colored mica with sparkling diamond dust in some of the natural openings of the driftwood. Completing the transformation from old broken pieces of wood to spectacular, Enhanced Driftwood Sculptures each piece is sealed in a natural-look matte finish, or ultra-gloss sealant simulating the look of just being lifted out of the water, as well as to preserve, & protect my art so it can be enjoyed for many years to come.
May be displayed with and without the base. Measurements without base: H 23" x W 7" x D 3.5"
